About

Prior to joining HCA, Dr. Hameed was Professor and Vice Chair of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology, Executive Medical Director and Division Director of Anatomic Pathology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Hameed completed his medical school education at the University of Baghdad College of Medicine in 1991, a multidisciplinary internship, and pathology residency and fellowship training in Jordan and at the Washington University in St. Louis, MO.

Dr. Hameed holds several leadership roles in National and International Pathology Societies and has published around 100 peer reviewed articles, reviews, books and book chapters and has served as an invited speaker and/or visiting professor at multiple locations in the US and abroad. His publication record and invited presentations reflect his interests in not only Breast and Genitourinary Pathology, but also quality and patient safety. Dr. Hameed believes that High Reliability Practices are key to improving patient safety and significantly expanded these during his tenure at Vanderbilt.

Omar and his wife Chura enjoy fine food and travel, including visiting their two daughters, Shilan and Sara, in New York City.
